Management Team Bryan Austin, CFP®, CLU®, ChFC®Managing Director Prior to joining Northwestern Mutual, Bryan worked in the international logistics field doing freight forwarding for a large freight forwarding company. He was introduced to Northwestern Mutual - Denver by a good friend, Mike Jones, after being career frustrated with the corporate arena. He decided to become a Northwestern Mutual - Denver representative, because he felt limited financially in the corporate world and wanted to be paid what he was worth. In addition, he wanted to be in a career that had positive impact on other people's lives, as well as his own family. Bryan has been a Million Dollar Round Table qualifier for six years in a row, won the bronze, silver, and gold awards as a new financial representative, and has been top 10 in Northwestern Mutual - Denver three times. He loves being a Financial Representative with Northwestern Mutual, because it gives him three things that he desired in a career: income, impact, and independence. Income: he has control over the amount of money that he makes. Impact: he knows he is helping others achieve their financial objectives and protecting families. Independence: he has the freedom and flexibility to work as hard as he wants and there is no cap on where he can go. His advice to you is to follow your heart. If you're looking for income, impact, and independence, there's no finer opportunity in the business world, than what we do.
Bryan is married to Kristen and they have 3 children. He enjoys mountain biking, water skiing and snow skiing.  Monica Covert KerberDirector of Recruitment and Selection
Monica Kerber is a Colorado native and a graduate of Colorado State University with a degree in Speech Communication with concentrations in theory and media. She has been with the Northwestern Mutual-Denver since 2002. She has held various roles within recruiting as both a campus recruiter, Director and ultimately worked closely with the home office in 2008 to create the CRO role. Monica was the first Chief Recruiting Officer to be appointed in Northwestern’s system. Monica is passionate about supporting recruiters in their career development and career path, she has made her mark in the company as a top 10 recruiting agency and has one of the best retained recruiting teams in the country. She is a certified coach, a graduate and member of Dr. Robert Cooper’s Accelerated Growth/Exceptional Leaders group. Her most recent accomplishments with the support of her amazing team include: achieving 173% of target in 2009, successfully supporting the District Office Spin outs of 3 districts in under 5 years and was one of five offices in the Early Productivity Experiment. She is married to Kevin since 2003 and she has two children Emma Marie and Wyatt Wayne.  Patrick IrelandManaging Director Patrick became a part of Northwestern Mutual in 2003 as an intern and in 2004 became a full time Financial Representative after graduating from CSU with a degree in Business Finance. In the summer of 2006, he earned the title of Field Director, and was appointed Managing Director in 2009. Patrick is married to Kacie and loves going to all sporting events, concerts, and movies, hanging out with friends, water skiing, and playing golf. He also loves to travel. Recently, he went to Italy and Ireland. His sister Maggie is Miss Colorado 2008.  Mike JonesField Director Mike lives in Thornton, Colorado with his wife Becki, his daughter Maci, and son Blake. Mike enjoys spending time with his family and his large circle of friends. Mike also enjoys playing golf, fishing and traveling with his family. Mike attended Bear Creek High School just a couple of miles from where his office is now located. Mike graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1998 with a Business Administration degree. He served as a college intern with Northwestern Mutual and decided quickly that this was the career for him. He started as a full time Financial Representative in January 1999. Mike was awarded New Representative of the Year in 1999 by Mike McKeever and he achieved Million Dollar Round Table that first year and every year since. Mike took his practice to the next level in 2004 by mentoring new Financial Representatives in the role of Field Director. Mike has helped many new Rep’s jump start their careers with his insight and leadership. In April of 2006 Mike opened Northwestern Mutual - West Denver along with his long time friend, Bear Creek Alumnus, fellow F.R. and recruit to the network, Bryan Austin. Mike and Bryan co-manage the office of 12 Financial Representatives, 5 college interns, 5 Associate FRs, a full-time recruiter, a dedicated SET person, and a staff receptionist. Mike has achieved FORUM level production for the past two years and MDRT Court of the Table for the 2007 calendar year. Mike’s goal is to maintain a FORUM Level, yet balanced practice, and he particularly enjoys working with small to medium sized business owners.  Kevin KaveneyManaging Director Kevin Kaveney was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1996 and was awarded a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Armor Branch. Kevin served in Korea as a tank platoon leader as well as with the 3rd Armored Calvary in Bosnia. In June of 2001, he began his career with Northwestern Mutual as a financial representative with Northwestern Mutual - Colorado Springs. In January of 2002, Kevin was activated by the Colorado National Guard in the wake of 9/11 and served in Korea. In 2003, Kevin transferred to the Hempstead Group in St. Louis.
Kevin has achieved Forum level production for 3 years in a row and is now transitioning to be the next Managing Director of Northwestern Mutual - Colorado Springs.
He is married to Carrie and they have a son, Conor, who is now 18 months old.  Eric McGough, CLU®, ChFC®Managing Director Eric began his career in 1990, first as a Financial Representative, then as a Financial Advisor, and now as a Wealth Management Advisor. In June of 2007 he became the Managing Director of Northwestern Mutual - Greenwood Village. He has a balanced practice of insurance and investments, and is a life and qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table. Personally, Eric is married to Debbie, lives in Highlands Ranch, and has two kids -- Jack and Maggie. He enjoys golf, tennis, skiing and reading. Lisa MillerChief Marketing Officer
With more than 20 years of successful marketing opportunities, Lisa has proven experience in strategic and tactical activities to support a wide variety of goals and objectives. Specific marketing experience includes: brand management; event management; product launch; vendor relations; consultation/coaching; advertising; social networking; public relations; training; sales; and, marketing and business plan development.
Immediately prior to joining Northwestern Mutual - Denver in April, 2008 Lisa spent seven years in the home office, beginning in the Brand and Advertising division then invited to be a part of the team that launched the Field Marketing division. In addition, she consulted with Managing Partners and leadership teams on assessing their training, recruiting, and marketing programs. Lisa earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and MBA from Cardinal Stritch University, Milwaukee, WI. In addition, she is a Certified Master Coach and Certified Trainer. Lisa enjoys the outdoor life and is taking advantage of all that Colorado has to offer. Very inquisitive by nature she loves to bike, hike, ski, and explore all she can.  Christopher PownallField Director Chris has been with Northwestern Mutual - Colorado Springs since 2005 and was New Representative of the year in 2007. Born and raised in Northern England, I came to the United States in 1999 after a professional soccer career and running my own advertising and marketing business. I wanted a career change that would give me the opportunity to make a real impact in people's lives and ultimately joined the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. My areas of expertise include retirement solutions and education funding and ensuring my clients are well protected if life's obstacles stand in their way. Very active in the community, Chris is a member of the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, member of the Pueblo Latino Chamber of Commerce and member of the Pikes Peak Venture Group. Chris is also the treasurer for the Village at Springs Ranch Homeowners Association. Finally, he is a certified ski instructor and loves to play golf.
With a Bachelor of Arts from University of Birmingham, UK, Chris is married to Maria and they have a daughter Niki. Stephani SamarasDirector of Operations
Stephani joined the NMFN team in the Spring of 2004. Stephani’s professional experience spans 20 + years where she held various management positions in Fortune 500 companies and Intranet enterprises. She has retained several industry and organizational accreditations including earning the Best of Bauer Award, Top Sales Representative, and achieved several certified coaching certificates. These combined experiences make her ideally situated to help lead and guide the organization’s human potential and capital operations. Stephani is a huge proponent of giving back to the community in which she lives. As such, she has actively participated in the United Way, Susan B. Komen foundation, Junior Achievement, and the Morgan Adams pediatric cancer Foundation. A native to Colorado, Stephani enjoys taking advantage of all that the area’s outdoor lifestyle has to offer in hiking, rock climbing and running. She resides in the Washington Park area with her high octane Beagle, Bailey.  Luke T SturgesField Director Luke is a Financial Representative, Field Director with Northwestern Mutual - Broomfield. Luke joined Northwestern in 2001 as a college financial representative in the internship program. A graduate of Miami of Ohio in finance, he knew the financial services industry was the right career path for him. Upon graduation in 2002 Luke took the experience and knowledge gained through the internship program and launched into a full time career. Since then he has found significant success in both his personal practice and in leadership by qualifying for Million Dollar Roundtable and the National Quality Award. He became the College Unit Director and Field Director in 2006 which allows him to coach, develop and recruit young college students and career changers in the Northwestern Mutual Internship and career opportunities. He is married to Candace, and they have one dog, Keylee.  Scott Theodore, CLU®, ChFC®, CFP®Managing Partner Scott Theodore, CLU, ChFC, CFP is Managing Partner of Northwestern Mutual - Denver. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, he began his career with the Northwestern Mutual in 1989. Scott has held the positions of financial representative, field director, and managing director, and has been the managing partner since January 2004. Northwestern Mutual honored Scott with its prestigious 2009 and 2010 Western Region Leader Award. The honor recognizes the managing partner for an outstanding year of performance, serving the financial security needs of clients throughout the region. With offices in Denver, Colorado Springs, Greenwood Village, West Denver, Broomfield and Vail Valley, Scott has led the organization’s growth from 110 financial representatives and employees, to 224 today.
In addition to his achievements in leadership, Scott has led by example by building a strong personal practice. He has qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table six times and has been a member of the 100 Lives Club ten times. While balancing the dual role of personal production and management, Scott compiled an impressive 500 consecutive weeks of personal production.
Scott currently serves as past-President of the Board for Karl Mecklenburg’s REACH Foundation, whose mission is to provide Denver-area children with educational opportunities and resources needed to excel in class and in life. With his leadership, Northwestern Mutual – Denver aspires to donate 8,760 volunteer hours (one full year) in 2010 to local charities, non-profits and educational institutions.
Scott received a Bachelors of Science degree in both Petroleum Engineering and Petroleum Geology from Marietta College in 1986. He is married to Sophia, and they have four children: Alexi, Steven, Tiffany, and Christopher. In his spare time, Scott enjoys reading, exercising and is currently training for his next tri-athalon.  Adam WayField Director Adam Way started with Northwestern Mutual in 2002. Adam is a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). Adam is also a 2009 qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table (2006-2009). MDRT is The Premier Association of Financial Professionals. Adam is an Ambassador club type for IFAPAC (Insurance and Financial Advisors Political Action Committee). Adam has qualified for the National Quality Award and the National Sales Achievement Award every year since 2006 (2006-2009). Adam is a Field Director and a Financial Representative with Northwestern Mutual - Colorado Springs. Adam is a Colorado native and a Colorado Springs resident since 2002. Adam graduated from Fort Lewis College, in Durango, Colorado where he raced for the number one mountain bike racing team in the nation every year. Adam’s hobbies include shaping metal, fabricating, modifying vehicles, drag racing, track racing, snowboarding and downhill mountain bike racing.
