Career ChangersMost pilots couldn’t imagine changing professions midway through their career. Fortunately, Shawn Wallace was not like his colleagues. Although flying families from one state to another was enjoyable for Shawn, bringing clients from one financial state to the next sounded even more rewarding. In February of 2009, Shawn spread his wings to join Northwestern Mutual – Denver as a Financial Representative. After graduating from Indiana State University in 1987, Shawn joined the United States Air Force in order to “fly the world’s greatest jets.” He was a member of the Air Force until he separated in 1999. Shawn’s impressive flying included his position as a 737 and A320 Instructor Pilot from 1987-2009.
In 2009, his Financial Representative told him about the opportunity with Northwestern Mutual. This was when Shawn realized that being his own boss, having the flexibility to make his own schedule, helping people align their financial goals and having a virtually unlimited income was what he and his family ultimately deserved.
Shawn’s family of four consists of his wife, Michelle and his two boys, Charlie, 10, and Jack, 8. “The flexibility of this career allows me to spend quality time with my family” said Wallace. As a 12-year resident of Colorado, Shawn is able to spend that time with his family where he wants to, outside!
Shawn’s business has thrived because his favorite part of the career is the relationships he makes and the positive impact he has in each of his clients’ lives. Now, Shawn cannot imagine selling anything else.
